Day 6-7 - Lazy Day

Today is a Saturday which means I won’t be going into the hospital today and I have taken advantage of my “lazy day.” I woke up, had a leisurely breakfast, read in bed then opted to take a nap/go back to sleep. It was nice to just lounge around and not have to get up for any reason in particular other than wanting to.

In the early afternoon, I had tea with Benson, Phares (the program coordinator), and Silvanus (the grounds keeper). I tried the tea they were drinking which was a form of chai but did not have a lot since I don’t really like tea. Especially being from the South, I found it surprising that they drink their tea incredibly hot, don’t wait for it to cool at all, and at like midday (just in case it isn’t hot enough outside). Phares and I sat around after tea and talked about politics in the US and how they compare with things here in Kenya. I can’t imagine what it is like to live with a government that can be so volatile and unpredictable. I mean I may not like politics in the US but at least I can predict that there will continue to be a certain level of slime and really not that much more.  For example, Phares was telling me that elected presidents have just refused to leave power despite losing an election in the past. After Phares left, I laid out and read by the pool, intermittently getting the water to cool off.  Now I am just updating my blog, responding to any important emails, and doing my exit interview for student loans (mini gag).

Day 7... Pretty much just re-read day 6.
